This 1955 Ford Thunderbird is finished in Torch Red over a red and white interior and is powered by a 292ci Y-block V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. The car underwent a $38k cosmetic and mechanical refurbishment from 2015 to 2016, and the seller acquired it in 2018. Equipment includes a white removable hardtop, a white convertible top, power windows, a cassette stereo, air conditioning, and an aftermarket air filter. This T-bird is now offered with refurbishment records and a clean Arizona title in the seller’s name.
The body was refinished in Torch Red at Hotrods by Mike of Huachuca City, Arizona during the refurbishment process, and a white hardtop is included in the sale. A replacement white convertible top was added along with new weatherstripping, seals, chrome trim, and more. A paint chip is highlighted in the photo gallery below.
Coker Classic whitewall radial tires in size 205/75 are mounted on 15″ wheels fitted with faux wire covers. The front suspension was overhauled and four new shocks were fitted during the refurbishment, and braking is handled by four-wheel drums.
The red and white interior was redone with a reupholstered power bench seat, red carpets, and engine-turned trim on the dash and door panels. Air conditioning has been added, as has a Thunderbird-branded cassette head unit.
A refinished red-rimmed, two-spoke steering wheel fronts instrumentation that includes a 150-mph speedometer, a 5k-rpm tachometer, an analog clock, and gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows just under 80k miles. The seller states that the tachometer and the clock are inoperable.
The 292ci Y-block V8 was rebuilt by the restoration division of Jasper Engines & Transmissions in Jasper, Indiana and features an aftermarket air filter, replacement coolant hoses, and more as detailed on the invoices below.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a three-speed Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission, which also was rebuilt by Jasper Engines & Transmissions. Additional photos of the underbody, suspension, and exhaust are viewable below.
Eight pages of invoices from Desert Automotive of Sierra Vista, Arizona that detail the refurbishment process are provided in the gallery.
