This 1971 MGB Roadster is freshly imported from the US to Holland and is equipped with a 1,798cc inline-four that was rebuilt by the previous owner in 2013 and is paired with a 4-speed manual gearbox. Additional work by the previous owner includes a full color change from factory Teal Blue to Flame Red and a refresh of the interior with new carpets, door panels, seat cushions, and covers. The service history file dates back to 2009 and documents the restoration, engine rebuild, as well as maintenance performed by the seller that includes oil and filter change, and tuneup. The car is sold with a factory removable hardtop, tonneau cover, a BMIHT certificate, data sheet, a clean Washington DC title and EU import papers stating all import duties are paid. Dutch registration or German TUV can be arranged.
A professional color change from the factory Teal Blue to Flame Red was carried out by the previous owner using a PPG base and clear coat. Detailed photos highlight the condition of the finish and document a few chips present on the body. Factory Rostyle wheels were replaced with 14″ chrome wires and fitted with the proper hubs and narrow rear end. A painted wire spare is also included and shown in the gallery.
The car is accompanied by three tops, including the hardtop pictured above, a newer soft top with a zip-out rear window, and the period tonneau cover as pictured in the main gallery.
The interior features new panels, carpets, and seats that were restored by the previous owner with reproduction seat diaphragms, foam, and covers. Factory Kangol magnetic three-point seat belts were re-webbed and rebuilt at the same time. A spacer was recently fitted to driver’s seat rail by the seller to allow fore/aft movement and a new bushing was installed for the 4-speed shifter. All electrics, controls, and instrumentation are said to remain in proper working order. The working odometer indicates 8,700 miles but cannot be verified as accurate.
A full rebuild of the 1798cc inline-four was done in 2013 which included a porting of the head and installation of larger intake valves. Coopers air cleaners are fitted to the pair of SU carburetors and additional details performed during the previous ownership include the conversion to a single battery, installation of a reproduction oil cooler, Tudor washer bottle, and factory decals. Records show the previous owner has replaced the clutch master and slave cylinders, rebuilt the carburetors, corrected the brake shoes, resealed axle bearing housings, replaced the choke cable, installed a missing bracket bolt, front wheel bearings, alternator belt, changed the oil and filter and performed a full tuneup in June 2017.
Cold start, warm start, and walkaround videos are shown above.
Several photos of the undercarriage are included in the main gallery, including pictures of corrosion on both battery trays. Included in the sale is the BMIHT certificate and data sheet.
