This 1972 Dodge Challenger is a Rallye Package example equipped with a 4-speed manual and power steering. The selling dealer acquired the car a year ago and reports that it was restored in 2005. Finished in Hemi Orange over black, this example features a 340ci 4-barrel V8 and a pistol grip shifter. The last owner has driven the car about 1,000 miles during his ownership, and a recent service included a new fuel filter and engine oil change. This Challenger is now being offered in Holland with the original bill of sale, two broadcast sheets, original books, two sets of original keys, a clean Michigan title and European import papers stating all import duties are paid. Dutch or German registration can be provided.
The car is said to have been rotisserie restored in 2005, and the Hemi Orange (V2) paint appears to hold an even shine in the provided photos. The Rallye Package replaced the Challenger T/A for 1972 and included the four horizontal stripes emanating from the front fender outlets on each front quarter.
The standard suspension features torsion bars up front and semi-elliptical springs out back. The 3.23:1 rear axle in this example allowed a theoretical top speed of 125 mph, and the un-assisted brake system has drums in both the front and the rear. The 14″ Magnum Chrome Road Wheels are wrapped in reproduction Goodyear Polyglas F70-14 tires.
The cabin retains its stock appearance with black woven vinyl seats, black loop carpeting, and factory shoulder belts.
The Rallye package featured a more complete gauge package than the stock Challenger, including a tachometer and the elimination of warning lights. This example retains a stock AM radio, and the 38k miles are said to be correct. Note the pistol grip shifter.
The 340ci V8 is equipped with a Carter Thermoquad carburetor and was rated at 240 horsepower from the factory. For 1972 the 340 was the most powerful engine available, and the Rallye package added a heavy-duty radiator and dual exhaust. The engine appears to wear the correct Medium Blue color and Hemi Orange air cleaner with the proper 340 sticker.
The sale includes the owner’s manual, tags, and warranty information, as well as the original sales receipt.
Two broadcast sheets are intact and are included, showing options as delivered for the Rallye Package.
