This 1972 Mercedes-Benz 350SL shows 51k miles and is powered by a 3.5 L M116 V8 paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. The car was imported to the US at some point, and sold to the previous owner at a charity auction in 2012. The selling dealer acquired the car three months ago at the same auction, and has driven 50 miles since. The car is a base-spec model lacking A/C and power equipment, and was repainted at some point in the current blue. The selling dealer states that the car runs and drives well, but the details of prior service are not known. This R107 350SL is sold with a matching hardtop, a clean New Jersey title, EU-documents stating all import duties are paid. Additional French registration is possible for €100.
Originally yellow, the metallic blue finish is an older repaint, and the seller believes that the lower body cladding was painted silver at that time. Noted blemishes include paint blistering above the driver-side headlight assembly, a touched-up spot on the lower body cladding and rear fascia, and some apparent body work near the passenger-side rear taillight. A set of aftermarket turn signals have been added under the front bumper.
The car was driven infrequently by the previous owner, and the fabric top is somewhat faded and has shrunk slightly over time. The factory hardtop is finished in body-matching paint with a perforated headliner in good condition. Steel wheels wear full stainless hubcaps with body-matched centers.
The base-spec interior lacks air conditioning, and windows are manually retracted. The seller described the interior equipment as functional, but notes some damage to the center control stack from an improperly-fitting CD player. Gallery pictures show some corrosion beginning to form in the floorpans.
Black MB-Tex upholstery has worn well despite some looseness at the sides. The driver’s doorcard shows several punctures and some seam separation, and one piece of trim has fallen off the passenger’s side seat. Aftermarket speakers have been installed in the rear parcel shelf.
Some surface rust can be seen on the floor of the trunk and inside the spare tire well, which contains a bundt-pattern alloy spare.
The M116 3.5 L V8 engine utilized Bosch Jetronic fuel injection and is paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. Peak power output was quoted at 200hp at the time of production. Power steering and assisted braking are equipped. Details of prior service are unknown.
The seller has provided shots of the suspension and floorpans, which can be seen here and in the gallery below. Some overspray can be seen on the muffler and inside the wheel wells.
The data plate can be seen above, and identifies the original paint color as Yellow (624 G)
