This 1979 Citroën Méhari was sold new in Lucca, Italy and used by the original owner’s family for trips to and from the waterfront through the 1990s. A refurbishment conducted by the original owner in 2015 included installing a new soft-top and side-skirts, rebuilding the 602cc air-cooled twin, and removing the fiberglass body from the chassis for refinishing in the original Beige Hoggar. Over the past two months, the seller has refinished the steel wheels, installed new tires and assorted trim, and replacement interior upholstery. This Méhari is now being offered with a clear Italian Libretto and certificate of ownership.
The fiberglass body was removed from the chassis in 2015 and refinished in the original Beige Hoggar (AC125). While the body was removed, the chassis was inspected and refinished in semi-gloss black. New chrome headlight rings and a replacement fuel cap have been added by the seller, while the steel wheels have been refinished and new hubcaps and tires have been installed.
A replacement soft-top and side windows were installed in 2015.
The interior features an optional back seat and benefits from the installation of new front seat frames, seat belts, upholstery, and foam.
The original rebuilt 602cc air-cooled twin drives the front wheels and is equipped with a two-barrel carburetor. Front disc brakes are mounted inboard near the four-speed manual transaxle. The seller has replaced the heater hoses and exhaust. A tune-up and fluid change were also recently completed.
A wheel alignment has been performed and the front suspension and steering are reported to be in good working order due to the mileage. Additional shots of the undercarriage can be seen in the gallery below. Located in Italy, the selling dealer is able to assist with shipping.
