Description

This 1988 BMW 535is was cosmetically modified by a previous owner in 2009 to resemble the European M535i. Finished in Zinnoberrot over black, previously added factory M Tech components include bumpers, grilles, lighting, steering wheel, and upholstery. This example features a stock M30B34 inline-six, a 5-speed manual, and a limited-slip differential. The seller has added 5.000 km since acquiring the car in June 2018 when it was freshly imported from California, and recent work included an oil change, fresh coolant and new brake pads. This E28 is offered with service records from 1994 and German registration.

The Zinnoberrot finish is believed to be original apart from the passenger-side rear door and fender, which were refinished after a parking lot incident. In 2009, a previous owner installed new-old-stock M Tech components including bumpers, grilles, and lighting, along with used side skirts. A number of original panel VIN stickers and the provided Carfax shows no accidents.

The 16″ basket weave wheels wear Nexen CP672 tires with less than 500 miles on them. The original spare is in the trunk.

The interior features original electrically-adjustable sport seats and was reupholstered using BMW Evo cloth and new leather for the seat bolsters.

An M Tech steering wheel was fitted, and some cracks are noted on the dash. All equipment is reported to function as it should, including the air conditioning and on-board computer. The original US-spec gauge cluster was retained and a vinyl overlay with metric units was installed. The odometer shows 124k km.

The 3.4-liter M30 inline-six is backed by a 5-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The head was rebuilt in 2005 at 70k miles and the oil was recently changed.

The suspension was refreshed in September 2017 with new Bilstein dampers, H&R springs, strut bearings, upper and lower control arms, inner and outer tierods, sway bar endlinks, center steering arm, and an alignment.
