This 1988 BMW M6 was sold new in Wisconsin and spent time with a previous owner in both New York and California before it was acquired by the selling dealer earlier this year. Finished in Zinnoberrot over grey leather, this example has been fitted with a set of 16″ BMW Style 5 wheels in place of the factory metric units. Power comes from a 3.5L S38B35 inline-six backed by a 5-speed Getrag manual transmission, and various fluids were changed recently in preparation for sale. Assorted service records dating to 1999 are included along with the original wheels, and a Carfax report has been provided. The car is offered by the selling dealer with a Spanish registration.
The Zinnoberrot (Cinnabar Red) paint is believed to be original across the majority of body panels, though the seller believes that the lower front valance was repainted at an unknown point in the car’s history. The paint has been metered across the body with readings between 3-5 microns.
The wheels have been swapped out for a set of 16″ BMW Style 5’s in an effort to increase tire selection over the original metric wheels, and the new units are fitted with Continential ExtremeContact DW tires. The original wheels have been professionally refinished and are included in the sale.
This example is fitted with the optional heated seats and is trimmed in grey leather with visible looseness on both the driver and passenger seat bottoms. A set of black and red Coco floor mats are shown and included.
An aftermarket ESIV radio has been fitted in place of the factory unit, though the original radio is included in the sale. All 1988 BMW M6’s received a four-spoke airbag steering wheel in addition to the BMW M shift knob and 170mph speedometer, and this example currently shows 91,400 miles.
Power comes from a 3.5L S38B35 inline-six that produced 256 hp and 243 lb/ft of torque when new. It is backed by a 5-speed Getrag manual transmission, and the combination received new fluids in preparation for sale. Assorted service records dating to 1999 are included.
Multiple undercarriage photos detailing the condition of the chassis, suspension, and brake components can be seen in the gallery.
A Carfax report has been provided by the seller showing no accidents, body repairs, or other issues.
